REPORT: 16th Twin Cities “Families for God” Weekend Draws Families from 12 States!

April 26, 2013

“Truth in Love” Extended Weekend & Prom in Minnesota!

2013FfG-Courtesy of Brian ReedSimilar to last year, families from a dozen states descended on the Minnesota Twin Cities for an exciting weekend featuring interactive workshops, a family formal as well as the signature prom.

16 years running, the Minnesota congregations of the United Church of God welcomed brethren from as far away as California, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington.

New for this year was an extended weekend during the second part of the Spring Holy Day festival—concluding with two services and a delectable buffet lunch on the Last Day of Unleavened Bread.

The newly renovated Minneapolis Marriott Northwest served as perfect venue and haven for the numerous guests during the weekend, featuring a completely remodeled hotel in an all-suite environment. The hotel guests enjoyed complementary hot unleavened breakfasts every morning in a separate fellowship room.

After an uplifting Bible study on Friday night titled “Truthing,” Saturday began with services featuring two messages: “The Kiss of Honesty” and “The Leaven of the Pharisees.”

To balance out the afternoon, the attendees had the privilege of actively participating in four seminars: “Seasons,” “The Bible Heart,” “Blessed are the Peacemakers,” and “Justified or Condemned by our Word.”

Evening activities kicked off with delectable formal dinners, separately for the families and the teens (a record combined participation of 167). Both groups briefly rejoined for a fun-filled ice cream social, before returning to their respective dances concluding close to midnight.

The 55 Prom participants had the pleasure of honoring eight seniors on their milestone achievement.

Sunday’s activities began bright and early with a drop-in for those interested in learning more about homeschooling. Since Sunday marked the day of the wave sheaf offering, it was only fitting to offer a seminar titled The Wave Sheaf Offering Today – An Interactive Discussion.”

Teen Prom: 2013 Twin Cities Families For God Weekend

Those attending the Sunday seminars had the pleasure of breaking bread at a plated luncheon at the hotel.

Families and teens interested in some physical fun activity could choose from two offerings at highly attractive group rates: Nickelodeon Universe Indoor Amusement Park and Water Park of America almost next door.

100 in all participated in the two events, which was another weekend record!

Peter and Terri Eddington traveled to the Twin Cities as special guest presenters to conclude the Spring festival with three messages on the Last Day of Unleavened Bread: Sunday night’s Bible study centered on “The 483-Year Prophecy and You” and Monday’s messages focused on “Quakes, Samson and Sin” andSaved By His Life.”

For 2014, the Minnesota congregations have tentatively set aside the same weekend during the Days of Unleavened Bread: Friday, April 18 through  Monday April 21.

The Minnesota brethren hope to welcome you next year!

Focus on God’s Work: ABC & Education

April 25, 2013

Ambassador Bible Center and Education

The home office has released a fourth monthly Focus on God’s Work video about the Ambassador Bible Center (ABC) and our other United Church of God education programs.

Gary Antion, ABC Coordinator and Education Coordinator, gives an overview of the past 14 years at ABC, and outlines some of the other major education initiatives of the Church.

As earlier announced, the plan is for various managers and employees of the United Church of God to give a report about their area of responsibility that may be of particular interest to our congregations. Pastors are asked to make the video links available to our membership, and most videos will be suitable to play in the sermonette timeslot at Sabbath services.

Focus on God’s Work has it’s own menu selection on the member’s website under the “resources” tab at This is where a new video will be posted each month.

UPDATE: United Church of God Presidential Selection

April 23, 2013

Dear fellow elders and church members,

We are pleased to announce the final nominees being considered for president of the United Church of God, an International Association. As with everything in the United Church of God, this selection process remains a “whole church effort.” Our membership has been praying for God’s guidance upon the General Conference of Elders (GCE) to put forth names of godly men in this selection process that would be humble, loving, wise and bold in moving forward the mission of the United Church of God to “preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God, make disciples in all nations, and care for those disciples.”

The GCE put forth the names of 27 men—of which 13 allowed their names to go forward and submitted their resumes for the Council of Elders to consider. All of these gentlemen, along with their wives, are wonderful servants of God and are out there every day in your midst sharing their lives with you. We thank them for their desire to serve their brethren.

The Council of Elders reviewed the nomination resumes of those 13 men and has each cast one ballot for a nominee, along with why each endorses that individual. The Council of Elders chairman (Robin Webber), the chairman of the Roles and Rules Committee (Gary Antion), and the corporate secretary (Gerald Seelig), reviewed the results and are pleased to announce the final lists of individuals to be considered for president of the United Church of God. They are in alphabetical order: Bill Bradford, Aaron Dean, Roy Holladay, Victor Kubik, Darris McNeely, and Randy Stiver. After prayer and fasting, the Council of Elders will interview them in person on May 6 and deliberate among themselves on May 7. Final selection for a new chief executive will be on May 8. Normally a new president immediately assumes office for a three-year term that can be renewed with Council approval.

In this discussion about men and process, let us always keep in full view the ultimate leader of the Church. Let us consider the words of Hebrews 3:1: “Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus.” Indeed, our Heavenly Father has set His Son, alone, to be our ultimate guide, inspiration, example and constant companion. At the same time, we need a man to guide and direct the daily activities of a worldwide endeavor to share the good news of God’s plan of salvation for humanity.

A president does have an impact on an organization by his cooperation with the direction of the Council of Elders, his loving Christ-like example among the employees and membership, his zeal and dedication towards fulfilling the mission of the Church, his ability to motivate our members in word and deed, and his example of reaching out to all in the Body of Christ. We invite you to join the Council in prayer and fasting in the weeks to come towards this end that God will direct the selection of such an individual, among so many fine and qualified gentlemen, “for such a time as now.”

In Christian Love,

Robin Webber—Chairman
