First Day: Ministerial Conference

Update on Ministerial Conference: Setting the Tone

Over 330 elders and wives were present on Monday, Jan. 31, to begin this special ministerial conference titled: Look to Christ: Advance the Work. On this cool, crisp January day, president Dennis Luker set the tenor for the meeting with a commission to the eldership to grow in humility and godly love in order to build upon the Rock that is Jesus Christ and finish the work He has given us to do.

The feeling of reassurance and gratitude that permeated the atmosphere as attendees greeted each other on Sunday night beforehand, continued unabated throughout Monday’s meetings. The invigorating fellowship was evident by the ceaseless buzz of joyful and earnest conversation during breaks and meals.

The instructions in Philippians 2:3-5 were emphasized repeatedly by the day’s speakers: for “each to esteem others better than himself,” and to “look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”

During the day’s breakout sessions, assessing the experiences and health of each region of the United Church of God in the United States and around the world, a sense of deep concern and care for the brethren was clear. Ideas flowed on ways to better support, care for and defend each congregation as well as train, mentor and develop both pastoral and local leadership.

More detailed reports will follow soon, including links to copies of the archived live webcasts.

  10. We are thankful for all the faithful ministers who have stepped into the gaps created; and pray that God and Jesus Christ will provide through this conference, extra strength, wisdom, and vision to humbly carry on with the commission that Christ commanded. Our fervent prayers will continue to be for them, as they endure and overcome every test and trial. We know God loves His church and nothing will destroy it.

  12. Of a truth, as we humble ourselves and esteem others better than ourselves, giving each dignity and honor, we will not fail in the high calling our Father has given to each one of us as our Father is a God of love and His love is manifested in His spirit which He gives to each of us for their glory (our Father and the Son of man) and for ours that we might be effective tools in their hands for the preaching of the gospel of His Kingdom which He will soon deliver to His Son and to the saints. When our Abba’s love is effectively working in us we care for ALL of His offspring, humanity, and we realize through His spirit and through His scriptures that the world is held captive by his (Satan’s) will and that his desire is to destroy ALL of humanity which he will in these days begin to fulfill all things which have been written concerning him and that it is INCUMBENT upon us, His FIRSTFRUITS, to preach the truth in power, strength and might as we yield to the holy spirit so that all nations of the earth will hear the glorious message of that STONE which was cut out of the mountain without human hands and that became a GREAT MOUNTAIN and filled the whole earth. We truly will not have gone over the ciites of Israel until the Son of man has come. We MUST TRUST AND RELY ON HIM AND OUR FATHER FOR EVERYTHING TO THEIR PRAISE AND GLORY AND FOR OURS – WE HAVE MUCH TO DO.

  13. Exciting, encouraging report. Looking forward to more! Thankyou all for your faithfulness. But remember that the adversary is devious and is not finished with us; we are still being attacked and undermined; we all need to ‘discern the spirits’, to ‘be strong and very courageous’ forever, and to do God’s Work well. May God be with you always.

  15. It is good news to hear that the 1st day of the conference was greeted with an atmosphere of friendship, concern & enthusiasm in preparing to go forward with the work as our Father & His Son has intended for all those who are a part of the church of God & the body of Christ. This end time age that we live in calls for an all out effort to get the gospel message out in preperation for that awesome event when our Savior returns. We hope & pray that the efforts to do so will expand to all who are a part of the house & church of God & the piller & ground of truth. Let us all look forward to the time when true reconciliation
will be a reality within the bodies of all the scattered sheep in joining together in
the Spirit of God in preparing to meet our Maker in coming together to help Him heal this dying world. May God speed that day.
We hope that His presence at your conference has brought the 2nd day to be as successful as the 1st & that His protection will be on all those present in their travels home. We know that all the people of God await to hear the final report pertaining to the accomplishments of that most important gathering.

  18. Just returned from the special GCE, and what a great two days this conference was. There was a feeling of unity and zeal by everyone, which we have not experienced in years. We are now excited about the future for UCG, and ready to finish the work God gave us to do. Thanks to all the participants.
