Beyond Today and Cable-Access Television

October 6, 2010

As we have recently reported, the airing of Beyond Today on the U.S.A. television giant WGN America, has been producing excellent results. Our Sunday morning programs reach viewers in all 210 U.S. media markets except Chicago. In addition, it also airs across Canada on Vision TV and Star Choice Digital.

Viewer response throughout the country—even with the early morning airtime in the Pacific time zone—has been strong and growing. Additionally, our cost per viewer response has been remarkably good. We expect this trajectory to continue as more and more people become familiar with Beyond Today in the months and years ahead. We thank you for your prayers and those of all the brethren for God’s significant blessings on this major media effort.

As a consequence of the solid results on WGN America, we are now in a position to ask our dedicated member-sponsors if they would like to end their participation in airing Beyond Today programs on cable-access television in their areas. We realize this may come as a surprise, but by bringing cable-access to a close the Church can save considerable production, labor and postage costs—and our video editors at the home office can shift into advancing more the visual and graphic elements of our programs. The reallocated funds may also be a means towards placing Beyond Today in the Chicago metropolitan area in the future, the 3rd largest media market in the United States.

So for these reasons we are moving in this direction. However, if our sponsors would like to continue airing Beyond Today on cable-access stations in their areas they are certainly welcome to continue to do so. We mentioned this to them in a personal message yesterday. Our plan is to discontinue cable-access television for all others during the week of December 26, 2010 through January 1, 2011.

Thank you for you continuing support and prayers for Beyond Today on WGN America and for all of our other ongoing media efforts.

  1. I would never have found you if you had not been on cable WGN. Now I fear I will lose you just as quickly.

  4. Hello, Brethren. The only comment I have is that the dates should be changed to January 1, 2011 and not 2010. Thanks.

  5. Good move. I’m glad to have helped as a local cable-access sponsor. It was a good opportunity for us at the right time. UCG was able to hone production quality during the cable-access years. When the door opened to WGN, we were able to act quickly with a high quality program.

  6. Not all cable television stations carry the Chicago station mentioned. I know for a fact that the Binghamton NY area is one of these. Who knows how many more are out there. I think you should have all the areas give you a report regarding this matter…..

  7. Could you please supply the metrics as to how well this channel of advertising is working for the dollars expended, i.e. cost/lead generated, increased donations from this media exposure and how does it compare to the public access media network? The proof of any new venture’s success is do the numbers support the dollar expenditures.

The other question I have is: Is the paid for TV advertising in the strategic plan? If it wasn’t, then who authorized the change to the strategic plan and was it approved by the GCE?

    Please supply the actual numbers.

I have no say in this matter, as I am only member in tacoma.

    • Hi Karin,
Please let your local cable access TV sponsor from your Seattle congregation know that you want to continue. We are very happy to have all continue who want to.
