Please make plans now to join United Church of God families from all over the U.S. at our 17th annual Families for God weekend in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which will be held on the weekend between the Spring Holy Days, April 18 through 21.

Our theme this year is “The Hearts of the Fathers” from Malachi 4:6, and will feature exciting sermons, Bible studies and interactive workshops, with our special guest, Beyond Today presenter Steve Myers.

In addition to our signature teen prom, “Masquerade Ball,” we will also host a fun game show for the young and young-at-heart, a delectable festive dinner, a refreshing ice cream social, an open mic jam session, a young adult activity, and an optional family outing at the ever-popular Nickelodeon Universe Park at the Mall of America.

The weekend will be capped off with two services on the Last Day of Unleavened Bread.

The beautiful Minneapolis Marriott Northwest will again provide an upscale setting for hundreds of brethren who will enjoy specials and discounts in an all-suite environment with a complementary hot unleavened breakfast every morning for those who book rooms.2014FfGProm2

  • Saturday Festive Dinner, Fun Game Show & Open Mic Jam Session: After sunset, we will host a fun game show for the young and young-at-heart, followed by an open mic jam session. So, bring your instruments!
  • Saturday Teen Dinner & Prom: Calling all teens ages 13 – 19 (plus 12-year-olds who will turn 13 in 2014) to this year’s prom themed: “Masquerade Ball.” We expect over 50 teens to join in this memorable event, which includes honoring our graduating seniors. Each participant will receive a decorative mask upon arrival!
  • Saturday Late Night Young Adult Activity: A late evening of fun at Grand Slam in Coon Rapids: After the ice cream social, we will head to Coon Rapids until midnight and enjoy unlimited multi-level laser tag, unlimited mini-golf, unlimited crazy cars, four arcade tokens and one batting cage token. Reserve the date! The Minnesota congregations are planning an exciting, extended family weekend during the Days of Unleavened Bread and would love you be a part of the festivities!

Last year, families from a record 12 states contributed to a most memorable milestone weekend! This year, the weekend is being expanded through Monday April 1 to include the Last Day of Unleavened Bread—allowing for additional seminars, fellowship opportunities and other activities for all ages.

This year’s theme is “The Truth in Love” from Ephesians 4:15 and will kick-off with a Friday night Bible study. The next day will include Sabbath services, followed by timely, interactive seminars and two concurrent formal dinners/dances—a prom for the teens as well as a formal dance for families, young adults, couples and singles. Sunday’s events will include the highly popular Water Park of America as well as additional interactive seminars at the hotel and another Bible study as we enter the Last Day of Unleavened Bread.

The three-day weekend will conclude with two Sabbath services and a luncheon. Please refer to www.FamiliesforGod.org for weekend details including registration form and deadlines. You may also contact David & Stephanie Mörker at dsmorker@yahoo.com or (763) 639-8705.

15th Twin Cities “Families for God” Weekend Draws Families from 12 States!

April 16, 2012

Invite them and they will come! The Twin Cities, Minnesota, congregation of the United Church of God had the pleasure of welcoming families from a record 12 states at their “Families for God” weekend! Never before had brethren travelled from so many states to participate in the weekend’s events which took place March 2 through 4, 2012. Those unable to make the journey could join in the Friday night Bible study and Sabbath services, as well as the interactive workshops via live webcast and telephone hookup.

The theme for the weekend was “Joined and Knit Together,” taken from Ephesians 4:12–16. The participants celebrated this milestone weekend in a spirit of truly being joined and knit together as the very people of God. UCG president, Dennis Luker, was the weekend’s keynote speaker with his sermon, “Joined and Knit Together by God’s Love.”

Brian Shaw, pastor of the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Little Falls, and Duluth, Minnesota, congregations, kicked off the weekend by conducting the Friday night Bible study titled, “Bound and Knit Together: A Review of the Unifying Principles in the Fourth Chapter of Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians.”

Marriott’s catering service opened up the Saturday evening by serving a delectable white-linen, three-course meal to the adults and children and, separately, to the teens attending the prom. The two well-attended signature events were the Fun Show and the Teen Prom.

The Fun Show provided an evening for everyone to showcase their talents, passions and abilities with song, music, readings and more to the delight of all attending the event! At the same time, a majestic moment awaited all the fair maidens and gents at the “Royal Ball,” the theme for the teen dinner and prom. Thirty-two ladies and 22 gentlemen, including 7 graduating seniors, heeded the call to attend this memorable event.

Due to last year’s record participation and back by popular demand, Sunday’s activity again took place at the Water Park of America—America’s biggest indoor water park showcasing the natural wonders of Minnesota. A fellowship room with direct water park access provided the perfect haven for all non-swimmers.
