BT Program “Is the Rapture Real?” Generates Excellent Response

November 11, 2014

Back in April of this year, the Beyond Today television program “Is the Rapture Real?,” produced by the United Church of God and hosted by Gary Petty, aired on the ION television network. At that time it generated an excellent 1,387 telephone and Internet responses. The program was re-aired the week of November 2-8, 2014, and produced an even better response of 1,461.

Additionally, this episode logged Internet responses from people in the following countries and territories: Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Germany, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Romania, South Africa, Singapore and the United States.

As always, we are very appreciative of your vital prayers for the United Church of God as it works at carrying out its commission to teach about Jesus Christ and preach the Kingdom of God in all the world (Acts 28:31).

Changes to ION Network Programming for Beyond Today Television

November 3, 2014

Beyond Today Logo - low resBecause of their expanding audience, the ION Television Network has made a business decision to place their own network programing to begin at 9 a.m. every day of the week. Up until now, their programing has been starting at 11 a.m. each day. This change to 9 a.m. start time becomes effective January 1, 2015.

Therefore, Beyond Today is going to lose its Sunday morning position on ION after December 31. The good news is that ION has been growing in overall viewership. This shrinkage of available paid programing time reduces their inventory by 25%. So, we needed to make a decision on how best to move forward—so as to not lose the good times that are yet available.

After much deliberation the United Church of God purchased Friday mornings at 8:30 a.m. We’ve negotiated this after several rounds of talks to be the same as our current pricing. A major benefit of this change is that we now have full network broadcasting with all 61 O&O (owned and operated) stations in all 210 U.S. markets. We’ll be reaching all 116.4 million households in the U.S.—in other words all 315 million people in the U.S.A. according to current census data.

We did contact representatives of other networks to see what they could offer to make sure that continuing with ION in this manner was our best choice, and no other network was able to offer anything preferable to what we will have starting January 1 on Friday mornings.

Here is a listing of the additional broadcast O&Os we will have. As you will see, some of them are the top markets in the country:

  • WPXN/New York
  • KPXN/Los Angeles WCPX/Chicago
  • WPPX/Philadelphia
  • KPXD/Dallas
  • WBPX/Boston
  • WPXW/Washington DC WPXA/Atlanta
  • KPXB/Houston
  • WPXD/Detroit
  • KPPX/Phoenix
  • KWPX/Seattle
  • WXPX/Tampa
  • KPXM/Minneapolis
  • WPXM/Miami
  • WOPX/Orlando
  • WVPX/Cleveland
  • KSPX/Sacramento
  • KPXG/Portland
  • WRPX/Raleigh
  • WHPX/Hartford
  • KPXE/Kansas City
  • WPXP/West Palm Beach
  • KOPX/Oklahoma City
  • WPXC/Jacksonville
  • WPXQ/Providence
  • KPXR/Cedar Rapids

We would appreciate your prayers for success in preaching the gospel of the Kingdom of God at this new time.

Thank you,

Peter Eddington—Operation Manager, Media and Communications Services

PS—Initial results from this past weekend’s program, “Is the Rapture Real?“, were very high. Once the week concludes we expect it to be one of our top response programs this year. It is a repeat program that offers one of our newer Bible sudy aids, “The Rapture Versus the Bible.”

“Why Were You Born?” Event Draws 74 New People in Cincinnati

September 12, 2014

Ticket-bearing attendees began showing up at the Holiday Inn Eastgate nearly an hour before the 7:30 p.m. seminar Wednesday, Sept. 10, to hear pastor, Beyond Today host and author Gary Petty answer the question “Why were you born?

Attendance at the event was over 200, including some local United Church of God members and Ambassador Bible College students. (Due to space limitations, the majority of local church members were not able to attend.) In addition, almost 400 webcast connections watched the event live online—representing more than a 1,000 people.

Particularly encouraging, was that the seminar drew 74 new guests, most having reserved tickets ahead of time, with a few showing up at the door for the event. Everybody who attended received a free seminar-themed notebook with pen and a copy of the United Church of God booklet Why Were You Born? (which was previously titled What Is Your Destiny?).

why were you born seminar

The one-hour seminar had been advertised locally in the greater Cincinnati area for a month. Eight striking, red billboards scattered around the city posed the “Why were you born?” question to commuters with a URL at the bottom and the date of the event. Pandora Internet radio ads also asked the question, creating 1 million impressions over four weeks. Television ads running on Time Warner Cable aired 746 times over two weeks (on Fox News, History, USA, Hallmark, National Geographic and TV Land).

For Internet advertising, Google ads created 85,000 impressions, with 1,010 click-throughs resulting in dozens of ticket “purchases;” social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook created interest using the hashtag #whywereyouborn; 5,400 letters from the president were sent to Cincinnati households on The Good News mailing list; and 28,530 e-mails were sent to Cincinnati residents, and a further 430 went to Good News subscriber e-mail addresses announcing the event.

Guests can sign up at Why WereYouBorn.com for free tickets.

Visit Why WereYouBorn.com to watch the presentation recording.

Steve Myers acted as host, introducing Mr. Petty at the beginning, and inviting everybody at the end to a follow-up seminar on Wednesday, September 17, to be held at the Church’s home office at 7:30 p.m. Seminar surveys were e-mailed to guests today, and those who signed up to attend but didn’t will receive information leading them to a video recording of the seminar.

Asked about his thoughts, one of the 74 seminar guests said, “Very inspiring, surprisingly well done, gave me a lot to think about.” Another guest said: “This is a lot to think about. Amazing what’s in the Bible.” Another guest said she didn’t get what she needed out of her current church and was very excited to learn more about developing her own personal relationship with God.

The entire presentation is archived online at http://www.ucg.org/webcast-bible-study/christian-living/why-were-you-born.
