Letter from President Luker: New Opportunities for “Beyond Today”

July 5, 2012

Dear Brethren,

God has opened an incredible new door to increase our efforts to preach the gospel of His Kingdom in all the world (see Revelation 3:8)! Beginning July 8, our television program, Beyond Today, will air every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) on the World Harvest Television network, which reaches 25 million households in the United States. This is in addition to the millions of households we are already able to reach every Sunday on WGN America and the WORD Network, and on nationwide television across Canada and Australia.

Also beginning on July 8, Beyond Today will be broadcast at 1:00 p.m. (GMT+2) each Sunday on Middle East Television (METV). Based in Cyprus, this 28-year-old station is available in every television home in Israel. It also reaches a potential audience of 200 million viewers in 22 Muslim countries. Our telecasts will be subscripted in Arabic at no additional cost to the church.

And additionally, starting July 8, Beyond Today will air every Sunday at 8:00 a.m. (GMT+2) on Far East Television (FETV). Our TV programs will reach viewers in nations throughout Europe, Asia and Africa. Far East Television has a potential audience of 4.3 billion people in 135 countries! You can see a full television station listing of all the stations and networks we’re on in The Good News magazine, and on our website at www.ucg.org/beyond-today/channels/.

This is truly amazing, brethren, when you consider the magnitude of what God has done! He has opened a huge door for us to preach the good news of His soon coming Kingdom to rule this earth and bring peace and prosperity to all nations. This is a message of hope desperately needed by all people in every nation.

I want to thank you, brethren, for your fervent prayers and faithful financial support of God’s work in the United Church of God. We are sincerely striving to serve and obey God and do His will and work on earth. Your love, loyalty and works of service are deeply appreciated!

Here at the home office in Cincinnati, Ohio, we are working together in peace and unity to accomplish God’s work. We all love one another and enjoy working together. As a result, God is opening many doors and blessing us with new opportunities to do His work and serve others.

Beyond Today studio.

I would like to ask for your prayers regarding the need for a larger and improved television studio so that we can produce even better and higher quality programs. We have a great team working together, and they do an amazing job considering the small size of the studio and the equipment available. And please pray for our three TV presenters, Darris McNeely, Steve Myers and Gary Petty, that God will continue to inspire and strengthen them and help them grow stronger and wiser in preaching and teaching His truth! They need our prayers and support even more with the expansion of our Beyond Today TV program into many more countries around the world.

I am reminded of the apostle Paul’s words to the brethren at Thessalonica, where he has a very similar request: “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you” (2 Thessalonians 3:1, King James Version). We too pray to see the gospel message, the Word of God, preached around the world freely, without obstruction.

And one final matter that I would like to share with you and ask you to pray about. God has blessed the United Church of God with a good, steady income because of your faithfulness in tithes and offerings, and we are doing well considering the church split we went through about 18 months ago. But now we are growing and expanding our efforts to preach the gospel and prepare a people.

So what am I asking you to pray about? It is this: that God will provide the “faith line,” an extra one million dollars income that we have included in our new budget, on faith, in order to keep growing and moving forward. Our treasurer, Aaron Dean, included this same amount in last year’s fiscal budget as a faith line—trusting God to provide the extra income that we would need to balance our budget—and God did provide it!

I am asking you to please pray that God will provide what we need this year as well, so that we will not need to make any reductions in preaching the gospel and providing for our churches and ministry. We can be encouraged that as we submit to His will that our God “shall supply all [our] need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

Thank you, dear brethren, for your fervent prayers and loyal support! Thank you for your love for God and His work on earth.

Sincerely, in Christ’s service,

Dennis Luker

  1. Yes, Mr. Luker. God has indeed opened up a giant door large enough to drive a Church through. HIS !!
I believe He is about to make His final appeal to this sick, violent human race which has totally lost it’s way. That it would repent and turn to Him before He has to horrifically, but mercifully intervene. All one has to do is look at the fruits that God is blessing His Church with .This is the commission found in Matthew chapter 28:19-20 about preaching the gospel of the Kingdom of God to the entire world and preparing a people. To those who will respond . And it is also truly amazing that God is doing this through such a small number . We will all be praying that God will take care of the financial aspect. By the way, I am deeply moved every time I read this just- announced good news. I thank all of you at Home Office from the bottom of my heart for your labor of love for God and His people. Let’s roll !

  2. A couple of scriptures came to mind as I rejoiced over God’s blessing us as His servants in preaching the Gospel, the good news of His soon coming Kingdom.

(Rom 10:18) But I say, surely they have never heard, have they? Indeed they have; “THEIR VOICE HAS GONE OUT INTO ALL THE EARTH, AND THEIR WORDS TO THE ENDS OF THE WORLD.”

I will certainly pray that God provides us with inspiration, strength, and financial blessings to accomplish this mission He has set before us!

(Rom 10:15) How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!”

  3. How very exciting to be reaching areas that we have never reached before. Emerging market areas are ripe for the truth and are eager for it. Look for excellent results from our broadcasts.

  6. Your welcome Mr. Luker. Did you get the rain you needed up North? I have been praying about rain for the farmers in IN, OH, and soforth. I will continue to ask our Father in heaven that His kingdom continue to come and His will be done for all mankind.
Thank you for bringing out what is most needed for the ministry and the gospel.

  7. How Wonderful to have the Beyond Today on Direct TV at 8:00 am on Sunday! We live in North San Diego County and there has been no broadcast available until now. The program on the Sabbath was wonderful and we pray for continued blessings by God as the doors open!

  8. You can’t be serious? Didn’t you poll folks about a larger studio and the answer was “no”? It seems like asking for a larger studio is a lack of faith. There is already a studio, use it wisely and stop asking for more and more and more all the time. Set an example of being thrifty and wise in these tough economic times. Don’t you have faith that God will enable you to do that? Why must it always be more and more and more? This is especially true when the answer was no before. I don’t get it.

    • Adele, the answer was not “no” the first time. It was, put the project on hold until finances permit so that a bank loan is not necessary. The current studio looks big on camera, but it is actually very, very small.

  9. Dennis,
I join you in prayer for the required finances for a larger and improved television studio to produce better and higher quality programs to broadcast the word of God far and beyond. Don’t be discouraged by those who are suggesting that you should not be asking for bigger things or finances. You know our God has asked us to “ENLARGE the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes!” Isaiah 54:2. As Christians we should never be content with little things in our service to the Lord. We are made for breadth and fullness, and we rob God when we fail to reach our best. So I endorse your plans for the bigger and better things because God has commanded us to do just that. Of course HE is aware that we may not have (all) the resources to widen our tents; that is why we should take advantage of HIS promise that ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ (Jer 33:3).
God our Father and Creator I pray that you take care of the financial needs of this your church. Amen.
